Father uses vintage Spider-Man comic to foot bill for wedding

Weddings aren’t cheap and Richard Schaen was really worried about how to pay for his daughters.

Then he remembered his comic book collection and he began sorting through it.

What he found was akin to a multi-colored gold mine.

There in the stack of old comics was Amazing Spider-Man No. 1. Schaen remembered he had bought the book in 1963 for 12 cents and now he figured, it had to be worth more.

He was right.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports Schaen put the comic up for auction and it sold for $7,900, enough to help foot the bill for the wedding.

"I gave my daughter a promissory note for the money with a picture of the Spider-Man comic, which we can use to pay for a big part of the catering for her reception," he beamed.

Schaen found more than just spidey, he also came across a copy of the very first Daredevil comic as well as the first three issues of The Hulk.

Several of those went on the block to pay for a new roof and some other household repairs.
