Farmers told to vaccinate their horses

With mosquitoes season getting started, Oklahoma horse owners are being encouraged to get their animals vaccinated for the West Nile Virus and Eastern Equine Encephalitis diseases.

The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture say they've seen around 40 cases of each disease in horses the past two years.

Those diseases are often carried by birds.  ODA say the diseases are then transferred to mosquitoes, who spread them to humans and horses.

While horses do have vaccines for those two diseases, there are no vaccines for humans as of yet.
