Benny Longoria’s family says he died in his Tulsa apartment on June 20, but they claim they didn’t find out until late July.
A Dallas area activist is now assisting the Texas family in finding some answers. C.D. Kirven told KRMG the family never got a call about Benny’s death and that they never received any of his belongings. They also say the Tulsa Police Department is not willing to investigate the death.
KRMG called TPD to ask about the situation.
“The individual had multiple medical conditions and died in his apartment.” TPD Public Information Officer Jillian Roberson said.
Roberson said there was never any suspicion that Longoria’s death was crime related. TPD also released a statement saying the information in the Dallas Voice, where all this information is compiled, is false.
The family also calls into question whether a doctor was present at the scene with police following the discovery of the body. TPD did confirm with KRMG that the doctor was not on site but that the doctor did sign the death certificate.
Kirven told KRMG multiple TPD employees were “rude” to the family and they have since contacted Internal Affairs asking for an investigation.
KRMG called TPD’s Internal Affairs office and we were told they are aware of the situation and that an investigation could be started once the family files an official complaint.
KRMG has placed a call to the doctor named by the family, but the call was not returned.
