Failed robbery attempt spurs gunfight in Broken Arrow neighborhood

Just after 6:20 a.m. burglars tried to break into a home near Narcissus and Nashville in Broken Arrow. When the homeowner heard the noise, he told police he found two men in his house, and reacted quickly.  “He grabbed a firearm and actually shot at the suspects” Broken Arrow Police corporal Leon Calhoun told KRMG news.  “At least one of the suspects returned fire, the homeowner was not injured” Calhoun finished. One of the homeowners in the area told KRMG he heard a succession of shots. “It was like one shot, pow, then pow, pow, two quick ones.”

Looking in the street in front of the house there were at least three evidence markers. KRMG asked if that meant that some of the shootout happened outside the house. “Yes, at least some of it happened in the front yard of the residence” Calhoun answered. “The homeowner was inside and fired at the suspect vehicle.” The corporal continued “One suspect did return fire but did miss the homeowner, its unknown at this time if any of the suspects were injured.”

Calhoun was asked if this looked like a situation where the suspects knew the people in the house “ the investigation is ongoing to compare and see if this matches any other MO’s that we’ve had but it would seem to be a random situation at this point.” Calhoun did admit this was a little unusual from one standpoint “we do have home burglaries typically when no one is home so it’s unknown at this time if they knew the homeowner was home.”

Police say they will ask for help later when they release a vehicle description.
