They say certain foods the ancient people ate gave them the buzz they needed to cause "geometric hallucinations" also called Turing instabilities.
Live Science and Adaptive Behavior says that makes the brain see neural patterns that are similar.
Others have pointed out the same theory in the past but not with the amount of evidence on file this time.
