Connor and Noah Barthe were sleeping in an apartment above a pet store when the giant snake escaped from a pet store downstairs.
The 16 foot African Rock Python slithered into the bedroom and crushed the boys to death.
The brothers were five and seven years old and Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer Julie Rogers-Marsh in in Campbellton, New Brunswick told the Associated Press "it's very, very unusual and very tragic and difficult for everyone involved."
Cops think the reptile got into the apartment through a ventilation system.
The pet store owner found the scene and re-captured the snake. He also told police no one in the store had handled the large animal because it was “vicious.”
It’s not unusual for rock pythons to attack large prey. In the wild they feed on monkeys, antelopes, warthogs and even crocodiles
Another boy was sleeping in a room next door and was unhurt.
