Eclipse 2017: The forecast, local events, safely viewing

TULSA — While Tulsa’s not in the path of totality for Monday’s solar eclipse, the celestial event has sparked a great deal of interest locally.

KRMG will have live coverage of the event, which begins roughly at 11:39 a.m. and lasts until 2:37 p.m.

The peak coverage of the sun by the moon passing between it and the sun will be at 1:08 p.m. locally.

Our partners at FOX23 will have crews reporting live from the path of totality in Idaho as well as Missouri.

It is important, health experts say, that no one try to view the eclipse directly without the use of approved eclipse glasses.

The only exception is during the brief few minutes of totality, but that won’t happen in Tulsa, where coverage of the sun will be just under 90 percent.
