Early am accident shuts down 71st St.

Early this morning a multi-car accident closed 71st Street between Riverside and Elwood Drive for over five hours.

The accident started when one vheicle going eastbound on 71st Street drifted over the center line and hit a car on the driver's side going westbound on 71st.

The second car then impacted another vehicle before stopping in the middle of the street.

Tulsa Police had to close down the entire area to allow emergency vehicles to rescue victims.

Five people have been taken to the hospital with leg, arm and head injuries.

One person had to be extracted from a car because they were stuck inside from the impact.

One victim currently remains in critical condition.

Police believe that alcohol was involved in the accident.
