Mole is a mixed breed hound just out for a walk with his human when he began acting excited.
The dog had spotted something trapped between two rocks and his owner Ramon Llamas told Fox 11 in Los Angeles that the dog "kept on tugging at my pants and whining, pulling me."
They heard sounds coming from something trapped between some large rocks but at first Llamas and other hikers couldn’t tell what it was. "I see his big eyes and his face; I thought it was a bear," Llamas noted.
But when they heard the man pleading for water they dropped bottles and quickly called 911.
It took about an hour to rescue the man but they say may have been stuck there for as long as five days.
One of the rescue workers said the man, named Paul might want to say thanks to Mole. "He'd be dead if it wasn't for that dog," he commented.
