Death toll climbs following tornadoes, flooding in Oklahoma City area

Another death is being blamed on the tornadoes and flooding last week in Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma Medical Examiner's office is confirming that 14 people died because of the powerful storms that swept through the Oklahoma City area late Friday.

That number is up one from the previous death toll of 13.

The National Weather Service confirms that five tornadoes touched down Friday.

There was also heavy rain that caused widespread flooding.

ME spokeswoman Amy Elliott says the dead include five children and nine adults. Six remain unidentified.

Among those killed were storm chaser Tim Samaras, his son Paul Samaras, and their colleague Carl Young. The three were killed in the EF3 tornado that struck El Reno during Friday's rush hour.

The Oklahoma City Fire Department reports that six people remain missing after the storms.
