The body of Gareth Williams was found inside a zipped and padlocked gym bag in his apartment in 2010.
At that time a coroner said it was likely that some kind of criminal act had taken place.
But now the official stance is the death of the former MI6 agent was an accident.
The deputy assistant police commissioner calls it "theoretically possible" that Williams was responsible for locking himself in the bag.
As you can imagine, Williams' family is not happy with the new report saying “we consider that on the basis of the facts at present known, the coroner's verdict accurately reflects the circumstances of Gareth's death."
The AP points out the Metropolitan Police "tentative conclusion" won’t in any way help "calm conspiracy theories around the bizarre case."
Cops confirm they didn’t find anything at the scene in the London apartment that made it look like a murder.
There were no signs of a fight and William’s door was not broken. They also report the apartment didn’t appear to have been cleaned to hide evidence.
For now, the mystery continues.
