Widening Yale between 81st and 91st will cost more than three times as much as the average road project.
Paul Zachary with the City of Tulsa tells KRMG that the average mile-long widening project costs between $8 and $10 million.
Yale between 81st and 91st will cost more than $31 million.
Crews have several reasons to get the work done soon.
Zachary says, "Guard rails are getting hit repeatedly. Frankly, over the last few years."
It will take about two years to finish the engineering work, relocate utilities and buy easements and other properties.
Zachary says 'Improve Our Tulsa' is paying to straighten the road and widen it from 2 lanes to 6.
Crews will have to completely close the road for parts of the project.
