Couple's walk leads to $10 million in gold coins

The couple were walking on their own property when they saw a rusty can sticking out of the ground.

They decided to dig it up, that became a VERY good choice.

Inside were gold coins so rare that some of them are worth $1 million on their own.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports the find is thought to be from the 1800s and are now being referred to as the Saddle Ridge Hoard.

Numismatist Don Kagin told the AP, "I don't like to say once-in-a-lifetime for anything, but you don't get an opportunity to handle this kind of material, a treasure like this, ever."

"It's like they found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow," Kagin went on.

In all, the now rich couple dug out 1,427 coins that dated between 1847 and 1894.

Those working on the coins say they must have been buried immediately after they were issued, resulting in their near-perfect condition.

The unnamed couple who found the riches say they plan to pay off bills, and give to charities, but they won’t move away from their land.

Once properly cared for, the coins will be put up for sale on Amazon. That’s expected to happen sometime in May.
