Colder winter, more snow forecast for Tulsa

The new winter forecast shows a chance for us to have some big cold snaps around here.

News On 6 Chief Meteorologist Travis Meyer tells us Tulsa also could be on the edge of a storm track.

"What I think we'll have is about two to four snow events this coming winter. Could have one or more ice events and about eight to twelve inches of snow which is about normal for a given winter."

Travis says we can use the moisture because the ground is so dry, especially from Bartlesville back to the western part of Oklahoma.

"We could also have a storm track that could start around Tulsa and develop across the southeast. What that would mean is more moisture than normal. That hasn't happened in the last couple of years."

He says we could have near-normal temperatures with a few major cold snaps with the chance for highs around 20 with lows around zero to 10.

Normally Tulsa gets around 10 inches of snow during the winter, but last year we had two inches of snow or less around the Tulsa area.
