The city is looking at about a $10 million difference in what was budgeted for this fiscal year and the sales tax revenue that the city has collected.
KRMG talked to Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett Monday morning to find out how the city is handling the issue.
“We’ve dealt with it primarily through a hiring freeze, cutting back on travel, but also not filling positions that are budgeted but unfilled by a person.” Bartlett says.
Bartlett tells KRMG next year’s budget will be difficult as well.
The mayor went on to say, “We certainly have a goal of not laying people off. We’ve asked our department head to come in with a various level of ways to meet budget projections and budget reductions.”
Bartlett says he doesn’t expect it to come to layoffs and the city is working hard to prevent that from happening.
