The city said no to the parade because it doesn’t match up with the way they want to be perceived.
Instead they say they’d rather put forward the face of patriotism, especially in young people.
Here’s the kicker. The city that banned the parade is Moscow.
The New York Times reports the Kremlin has supported legislation to disallow what they term homosexual propaganda in cities all over Russia.
One city official was quoted as saying "according to Russian legislation, we must work clearly and consistently on maintaining morality, oriented toward the teaching of patriotism in the growing generation, and not toward incomprehensible aspirations." He added “in our opinion there is no demand for these kinds of events in the city."
Supporters of gay rights say the country is promoting violence, ignorance, and bigotry.
