The meeting involved over an hour and a half of what the Galveston County Daily News called "impassioned pleas" from both sides of the issue.
However, when the role was called, The League City, Texas council voted 6-2 for banning undocumented children.
The Houston Chronicle reports the vote asks the city to deny any request by the government to open a detention or processing center.
The measure says they fear “potential threat of communicable diseases reported to be prevalent" among the children.
KHOU in Houston quotes a legal expert who says, "It’s simply not the city’s legal right to tell the federal government what they can and cannot do in the area of immigration. Even states don't have the authority to do this."
League City may have started a trend.
The Galveston County commissioners later approved a nearly identical resolution by a 4-1 vote.
The paper reports the US is now considering sending some of the kids to an empty Houston middle school.
