It happened during the Cirque du Soleil show Ka at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Performer Sarah Guyard-Guillot fell 50 feet from a vertical stage to a pit below.
Witnesses say she was wearing a harness but it somehow came loose from the wire it was attached to allowing the accident.
At first many in the audience thought the incident was part of a fight scene in the show but screaming could be heard and the show was stopped.
It’s a first for the circus/acrobatic show that has become popular worldwide
The company released a statement after the show saying "the entire Cirque du Soleil family is deeply saddened by the accidental death of Sarah Guyard-Guillot.”
Guyard-Guillot was a 31-year-old acrobat from Paris who had been performing for 22 years. She had been with KA since it opened in 2004.
Just a few days before Cirque had a close call when a performer in the Michael Jackson One show ended up with a mild concussion after falling through a rope that was not tight enough.
