Child dies, left in hot car for several hours

A medical examiner says hyperthermia was the cause of death for a toddler left for hours in his father's SUV.

The Medical Examiner's Office says in a news release that toxicology results are still pending but that it believes the cause of death was hyperthermia and the manner of death was homicide.

Hyperthermia is a condition in which the temperature of the body spikes due to the heat.

The boy died on June 18 after his father, 33-year-old Justin Ross Harris, left him in the hot car for several hours in Cobb County, Georgia.

Harris faces a murder charge.
