Call girls expected to make presence known in Tulsa this weekend

Restaurant and hotel owners aren't the only people hoping for a windfall from a major sporting event in Tulsa this weekend.

Tulsa police say they often see a surge in prostitution when events like the Chili Bowl come to town.

In the modern era, most prostitutes take their business online, posting ads on websites where potential customers know to find them.

Sgt. Todd Evans, supervisor of the TPD Vice Squad, tells KRMG it's how they do business, and large events are a big draw for them.

"Most of the prostitution that occurs now is on different Internet sites, and the people who procure prostitutes often know the sites to go to, and what to look for," he said.

"In talking with other vice supervisors from other agencies, it's common when big sporting events are in a town to see an increase in prostitution around those events. The prostitution seems to follow people that are travelling into town for an event, staying in hotels, and we see an increase in the number of prostitutes that are advertising, as well as they mention the sporting events in their advertisements for people that are going to those events."

He says TPD would like to put more detectives out during such events, but they don't have the resources -- although they could call for extra help in certain situations.

Often, they get calls about private parties at hotels that involve strippers and/or prostitution.

He did note that this year, they haven't really seen a large increase in online ads -- a hopeful sign that prostitution won't be a huge problem during this year's Chili Bowl.

He said while some consider it a "victimless" crime, it leads to STDs, and a lot of related crime, including assaults and robberies.
