Bus-semi crash injures nearly 20 people

The wreck happened on Highway 69 near 580 road south of Pryor. A bus was slowing down for a railroad crossing when it was hit from behind by a semi-truck.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Lieutenant James Loftis tells us "there were about ten people that were transported from the bus for treatment but they're non-life threatening injuries."

Loftis said the bus had stopped for the railroad crossing when a semi hauling mail rear-ended the bus.

The American Red Cross set up a shelter at the Pryor community center for the 40 Mexican nationals who were passengers on the bus.

The truck, driven by a man from Missouri, was hauling an empty box trailer.

OHP added "the truck driver was flown by life-flight to a Tulsa hospital in critical condition. There were 14 bus passengers who received varying degrees of injuries.  The 14 bus passengers, all in good condition, were taken by EMS to Tulsa area hospitals.  At this time there are NO REPORTED fatalities involved in this collision.”

The bus passengers are being housed at a community center while another bus is brought in to take them to their destination.
