TULSA - A $41 million project to replace the I-244 eastbound bridge over the Arkansas River has begun, and that will mean detours and orange barrels for the next two years.
The southwest corner of the Inner Dispersal Loop is where the project will have its primary impact, although drivers will also learn they can't go north on U.S. 75 from eastbound I-244 on the northeast side of the IDL, nor southbound on U.S. 75 from westbound I-244.
The closures and detours are very similar to those Tulsans experienced when the Oklahoma Department of Transportation replaced the westbound I-244 bridge over the Arkansas River.
Here's the list of initial closures:
- Southbound US 75/westbound BA Xpwy to westbound I-244/southbound US 75 (south leg of IDL to Arkansas River)
- Southbound US 75/westbound BA Xpwy on ramp from S. Denver Ave.
- Westbound I-244 ramp to eastbound BA Xpwy (west leg to south leg)
There will be additional closures as the project continues.
Completion is expected in Spring, 2015.
