The BOK Center finished the first quarter of 2013 ranked in the Top 20 in the U.S. by Pollstar Magazine. BOK spokesman Jeff Nickler told KRMG news, "we're the fourteenth ranked arena here in the country, which is astounding. Even after five years we have maintained our status as one of the top concert destinations here in the country." The American Airlines Center in Miami was number one.
With the success of the BOK Center positive economic effects have also touched other local businesses in the downtown area. Nickler says, "it's been fantastic to see the resurgence of downtown Tulsa, not only here around the BOK Center with our new developement of One Place but also across the tracks over in the Brady district. It's amazing and it's been a fantastic five years."
Mayor Bartlett echoes those sentiments. "There really is a very strong buzz in the downtown area about people moving in, working downtown, having retail facilities downtown, alot of entertainment downtown, and it's just really been fun to watch that and participate with it."
Upcoming concerts at the BOK Center include Miranda Lambert, Fleetwood Mac, REO Speedwagon and Sir Paul McCartney, who is returning to the BOK Center to help celebrate the Center's 5th anniversary. Tickets sold out for his Friday performance in May shortly after they went on sale and promotors added a second concert to the venue for Saturday. This is the first time that any major adult atttraction has booked back to back play dates since the BOK Center opened five years ago.
