Bixby about to kick off Haikey Creek Flood Protection Project

The City of Bixby's main Vision 2025 project will kick off as soon as weather permits, and it will mean some road closures between now and August.

Phase one of the project involves bridge construction along E. 131st Street.

Part one of the bridge construction runs from Garnett Road to Mingo ROad, and should be done by July 13th.

The second part of the bridge construction, between Mingo Road and Memorial, begins after part one and is scheduled to be complete by August 20th.

Phase two of the overall project involves channel widening on Haikey Creek and one of its tributaries.

Finally, during phase three the city will construct a levy west of the creek.

Ultimately, City Engineer Jared Cottle tells KRMG, the project will remove 900 acres of prime land from the flood plain.

Not only will that enhance safety, it will make the land more desirable for commercial or residential development.

The general area affected by the project runs along Mingo Road from just south of 131st Street to 121st Street.

Cottle says they will begin deploying equipment as soon as the ground dries up enough for them to begin work.
