Barack Obama takes oath of office for the fourth time

President Barack Hussein Obama has now taken the oath of office four times, more than any president except Franklin Delano Roosevelt, although in Obama's case only two really counted.

Because Inauguration Day fell on a Sunday this year, Obama took the oath of office once in a small but constitutionally mandated ceremony on Jan. 20, then did it again on Monday for the crowds gathered in Washington, D.C.

Those crowds are estimated to be about 800,000 in size, considerably smaller than the numbers which thronged D.C. during Obama's first inauguration four years ago.

In that case Obama also took the oath twice, because the Chief Justice flubbed it the first time.

As an austerity measure, the Obama administration plans only two inaugural balls this time around, as opposed to the ten that were held in 2009.
