Baby struck by SUV after falling out of car has died

A 16-month-old girl who fell from a moving vehicle Sunday evening and was struck by an SUV has died.

Tulsa police tell KRMG Emarie Jones was apparently not properly secured in her car seat when the accident happened Sunday evening about 6:00.

Her mother was westbound on Pine Street and turning onto the northbound L.L. Tisdale Expressway when a rear door came open and the child tumbled out onto the roadway.

Police tell KRMG the car seat was either not properly secured, or the childseat was not appropriate for the age of the girl.

At this point, they're still trying to determine how the door on the Chevy Tahoe came open.

They do know there was a four-year-old child in the back seat next to the baby at the time, but they haven't determined if the older child was in any way involved.

Another child, five years old, was in the front seat.

The mother immediately stopped, grabbed the badly injured baby, and took her to a hospital.

However, doctors could not save her.

As for the other driver involved, police only know that they drove a dark-colored SUV, and so far they have not located that vehicle.

Police want to question that other person to learn if they're even aware they struck the child.
