Apple says a small amount of the iPhone 5 handsets made after March of 2013 have the problem with the sleep/wake button not working.
The company says faulty mechanisms have caused the issues, but is now setting up a program for folks to get their iPhones back in working order. You can go to Apple’s dedicated webpage to enter your serial number to see if you qualify for the free fix.
Those who qualify can send in their iPhone for inspection, call an Apple Store or visit another authorized service provider listed on the site.
If affected users want to take their handset to an Apple store, they will get a 16GB iPhone 5 as a loaner while theirs is fixed.
