Appeal filed in gay marriage ruling

The Tulsa County Court Clerk's Office has filed an appeal to the gay marriage ruling from the feds.

The appeal filed on Thursday claims that the federal ruling on same sex marriage violates the U.S. Constitution.

A federal judge handed down a ruling on Tuesday that said an amendment approved by Oklahoma voters ten years ago violates the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, but the judge said the ruling would not take effect until any appeals are exhausted.

The Tulsa World reports that two lesbian couples, Sue Barton and Gay Phillips, and Mary Bishop and Sharon Baldwin, filed a civil rights lawsuit in 2004, the day after Oklahoma voters approved the constitutional amendment, challenging the state amendment and the federal Defense of Marriage Act.
