American Airlines now exclusively speaking to another airline about possible merger

The parent company of American Airlines has entered an agreement with U.S. Airways.

The non-disclosure deal will allow the companies to discuss combining without the threat of offers from other companies.

AMR Corp. is in Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization.

Friday morning U.S. Airways Group Inc. said  they've agreed not to talk to other parties about

any potential combination while they are evaluating their situation with each

other.

AMR filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last November.

The companies noted that there can be no assurance that a transaction will result from these discussions.
