Alumnus gives commencement speech from International Space Station

UConn grad Rick Mastracchio was asked to be the commencement speaker for this year's school of engineering graduation on May10th.

He was thrilled to get the offer but there’s one little drawback, he’s going to be out of town.
265 miles out to town traveling over 22,000 MPH to be specific.

Yep, Mastracchio is on-board the International Space Station.

Thanks to technology, Rick recorded the speech from space and transmitted it earth so NASA could hand it over to the Huskies.
Over 5,000 people will see the speech on the video boards at Gampel Pavilion on campus.
The engineering school dean admits he’s "a bit nervous," but remains hopeful.
"We have never tried anything like this before, and I know that the world will be watching us. So, while I'm excited, I still have to have my fingers crossed."
