All sand lawn draws complaints from neighbors

I've decided that I've owned the house for 33 years and that I wasn't going to mow anymore or water," Georgianna Reid proclaimed.

Reid had every bit of grass removed from around her house and replaced it with 80 tons of sand.

The cost, $4,000.

There are beach chairs, statues, and stepping stones in the sand. There was a volleyball net and a treasure chest too, but someone stole them.

"I would say, 'I'm putting in the largest litter box in the world,'" Reid told KCTV in Kansas City.

Many of her neighbors had other descriptions.

"I think the house looks revolting with all that is out there," one said.

A few people disliked it so much they filed complaints with the city.

It didn’t help.

An inspector said because the sand is used for landscaping, it doesn’t violate any city ordinances.
