Abducted Missouri children found in Tulsa

Tulsa police and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol located some missing children from Missouri early Tuesday.

The children, Jesus, Jaysnia and Juliana Mendoza and their mother Julie, were taken into custody about midnight near 21st and Utica after the OHP notified Tulsa police that the family had been seen near 1800 South Wheeling Avenue.

Authorities in Missouri "were in the process of initiating an Amber Alert over this incident when we located the children," Tulsa Police Sergeant Malcolm Wightman said.

The children's mother was arrested for interfering with child custody.

Wightman said, "The children were placed in DHS custody" until authorities can arrive to take them back to their caretaker in the St. Louis area.
