The Tigers continue to play the best football of any SEC team this year. There were glimpses of an unstoppable juggernaut against Auburn, even if there were glimpses of a team that could be defeated.
It seems like just about every week I'm less and less impressed with Alabama -- which is something I don't think I've ever said about a Nick Saban team. Beating Ole Miss soundly this weekend would get rid of a lot of my questions.
They've shown the ability to play small amounts of defense here and there. That's a lot more than can be said about a lot of other teams in the SEC right now.
4. Texas A&M;
They just got flagged for another penalty.
5. South Carolina
Yes, the week before the big game against Central Florida is the perfect time to schedule a bye week. Actually, that's not too far from the truth.
I'm tentatively keeping Florida here for right now. I don't generally buy into the "our x can't be any worse than it already is," because most fans that say that don't realize how bad that part of their team could be with some effort. But I do think that Tyler Murphy could be enough of a wild card that he could surprise some people. A breakthrough game around the first weekend of November or so would be nice.
7. Ole Miss
Clearly the cream of the rest of the conference, and maybe the kind of team that could push Florida if given a chance. They have a chance to pull off a Houston Nutt-esque feat this weekend and throw the whole Top 25 into disarray.
Congratulations on getting to be in the conference you always wanted to be in for a week. Now, could you play a game or two in the conference you're actually in some time this season?
I've seen enough to move them ahead of the Commodores. I haven't seen enough to convince me that the ceiling on this team is higher than eight wins -- and that's if everything goes right and they get a bit lucky.
UMass? We need to talk about scheduling home-and-homes with MAC teams in the first place, but we'll set that aside for a moment. You struggled with UMass?
[Insert clever Jen Bielema / karma joke here]
12. Mississippi State
That was impressive. Let's see you do anything like that against a team from a conference other than the Sun Belt.
In fairness to Georgia fans, we should point out that they lost to Florida at least in part due to the six turnovers.
I'm sorry, but if you're ranking anyone other than the Wildcats here right now, you're doing it all wrong.
