The worker lost his hand in an accident at work leaving him "shocked and frozen on the spot."
Co-workers unplugged the machine that had done the damage, and then rushed the man and his hand to the hospital.
Once there, doctors made the fast decision to sew the hand onto Xiao Wei’s ankle to keep it viable.
A doctor in China told The Daily Mail "his injury was severe, besides ripping injuries, his arm was also flattened.”
The doc went on “we had to clear and treat his injuries before taking on the hand reattachment surgery."
The BBC reports doctors in Great Britain say the procedure is "well-recognized," although doctors usually reattach to the armpit "because the blood supply is better."
Xiao Wei’ was amazed, and grateful. "I am still young, and I couldn't imagine life without a right hand."
Doctors left the hand on the ankle for a month before re-attaching it. They are convinced he will regain complete use of the hand.
