Fukushima Industries makes appliances and doesn’t have any connection with the Japanese nuclear plant that melted down in 2012.
First reports said the mascot had to do with the plant and the prefecture and was made to help repair their image.
But it turns out the appliance company just decided to come up with a corporate symbol.
The firm settled on an egg like creature with the unfortunate name “Fukuppy.” To be clear, that's pronounced "fook-uppy."
On their website the company says Fukuppy was born in a Fukushima Industries Corp fridge, is unsure whether it is male or female and is curious, kind and has “a strong sense of justice.”
“I fly around on my awesome wings, patrolling supermarket showcases and kitchen refrigerators,” the egg like mascot explained on the site. ”I can talk to vegetables, fruit, meat, and fish and can check on their health!”
The company says after some feedback they’re thinking of renaming the egg.
